Maharashtrian weddings, or 'Lagna', are celebrated for their elegant simplicity, deep-rooted Vedic traditions, and warm hospitality. Literally translating to 'a packet of sugar', the groom's mother applies haldi-kumkum to the bride's forehead and gifts her a cone of sugar, symbolizing a sweet beginning to her new life. This is followed by Kelvan, a beautiful tradition where family members and close friends host special lunches or dinners for the bride and groom, showering them with gifts and love before they start their joint journey. A day before the nuptials, the Halad Chadavane takes place. On the wedding day, several crucial rituals take place that form the spiritual core of the ceremony:
- Seemant Puja: The bride’s parents welcome the groom and his family at the boundary of the wedding venue, washing the groom's feet and offering prayers for a smooth ceremony.
- Antarpat and Mangalashtakas: A silk shawl (Antarpat) is held between the bride and groom, preventing them from seeing each other. The priests recite Mangalashtakas (sacred verses). As the final verse ends, the Antarpat is lowered to the sound of shehnai, and the couple exchanges garlands under a shower of akshata (colored rice).
- Saptapadi: The couple takes seven steps together around the holy fire, reciting vows of companionship, food security, strength, wealth, happiness, progeny, and lifelong friendship.

This is followed by Laxmi Pujan, where the groom officially gives his bride her new name, writing it on a plate of rice grains, and they pray together for a prosperous future.
